Researchers from Johns Hopkins have confirmed quantitatively what everyone who works with metrics in healthcare already knows intuitively: the costs associated with developing, maintaining, and reporting metrics is massive. Despite the digitization of healthcare, there is still an intense amount of people resources that go into making sure the metrics that are reported internally and externally are complete, valid, and properly reflective of performance (although the last point is always contentious!).
